Biography

Shannon M. Crow believes that every person should have access to music education, especially the chance to play a stringed instrument, and has been striving to bring aforementioned opportunities to all.

As an instructor with Butler Community Arts School, Ms. Crow created and continues to direct the Butler Strings Camp and the Butler Children's Orchestra and Butler Youth Orchestra. Through these programs, students explore stringed instruments using classical music, jazz as well as other genres. Shannon has the largest portion of her violin and viola private studio at Butler University, where her students continue to grow under her tutelage year after year.

Since 2003, Shannon has also been an instructor with the Metropolitan Youth Orchestra of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra. Her roll is ever evolving with the organization. She began as the conductor of Orchestra B and as a chamber ensemble coach, and has moved on to instruct private violin and viola lessons, as well as to form and lead the MYO Parent Ensemble.

At the IUPUI Music Academy, Shannon not only teaches private violin and viola lessons, but she also developed and conducts the Adult Strings Ensemble, which provides adults with little to no music experience an opportunity to learn a stringed instrument.

Most recently, Ms. Crow is teaming up with DePauw University to start a strings program in Greencastle, Indiana schools for the first time.

When not teaching and directing, Shannon enjoys playing with various orchestras including the Carmel Symphony Orchestra, as well as for private events through her company White River Music.

In her spare time, Shannon loves running the roads and trails, relaxing around a campfire, and cooking for friends and family.
